About Swords Against Madness

Swords Against Madness is a podcast that fuses storytelling and solo RPG play. I am playing Swords & Wizardry Complete, aided with various tools like Mythic Game Master Emulator.

(Ocasionally my 8 year-old son will jump in and run the odd encounter.)

My goal is to take this amazing genre of podcase, epitomized by series like Tale of the Manticore, Legend of the Bones, Legends from the Fireside, Stories of the First Watch, The Iron Realm, and The Lone Adventurer, and add in the surreal, psychedelic, gonzo weirdness that defines my favourite creations in the Old-School TTRPG Renaissance, and the pulp sword-and-sorcery movies of the 1970s. The weirder, the better.

As my son is a huge fan of hearing people play TTRPGs on podcast, and this podcast is made in part as a gift to him, I will keep it to what qualified as a PG-13 film around 1988. My litmus test for content will be “If it flew in Goonies, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, or Gremlins, it’ll fly here” But I won’t go past those limits.

Strap on your tri-bladed sword, get comfortable in your studded leather kirtle, or chainmail bikini, fire up the wizard van…. things are about to get weird
